How a small Chinese furniture factory became part of tennis history.
The Australian Open is one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world. For two weeks each January, all eyes turn to Melbourne Park where tennis legends are made, dreams are realized, and millions of spectators experience world-class sport in world-class facilities.
But behind those unforgettable matches, behind the champions and the crowds, there’s furniture. Lots of it.
And for the past 13 years, much of that furniture has come from a factory in Fengxian, Shanghai.
This is the story of how Kino Furniture became an official supplier to the Australian Open and what that journey taught us about quality, trust, and showing up, year after year.
It was 2013 when we received the call that would change everything.
The Australian Open organizing committee was looking for furniture suppliers. Not just any suppliers partners who could deliver exceptional quality, meet strict deadlines, and handle the unique demands of a world-class sporting event.
We were a young company then. Just one year old, officially. But we had something the committee recognized: experience, dedication, and a willingness to go the extra mile.
They took a chance on us.
Supplying furniture for the Australian Open isn’t like a normal order. Not even close.
Consider the demands:
One mistake, and millions of viewers notice.
No pressure.
We approached the Australian Open the way we approach everything: with meticulous attention to detail and an unwillingness to compromise.
Our team worked around the clock to perfect every piece. We tested materials for durability. We refined designs for comfort. We planned logistics with military precision.
When the first containers arrived in Melbourne, we held our breath.
And then? Nothing went wrong.
The furniture performed perfectly. The committee was happy. And a partnership was born.
Year after year, we returned to Melbourne.
With each passing year, our presence grew. So did our understanding of what it takes to deliver at this level.
We learned to anticipate needs before they were expressed. We built relationships that transcended contracts. We became part of the Australian Open family.
In 2016, we received an honor that still makes us proud: official recognition as “The Supplier of Australian Tennis Open” a designation that validated years of hard work and countless small victories.
That year, our furniture appeared in more venues than ever before. Our team walked the grounds, watching spectators interact with pieces we had designed and built thousands of miles away. Strangers from around the world, sitting comfortably, enjoying tennis on our furniture.
It was surreal. It was wonderful. It was everything we’d worked for.
Over 13 years, we’ve sent more than containers and invoices to Melbourne. We’ve sent people.
Our technicians have traveled to Australia multiple times, overseeing installations, handling refurbishments, and ensuring everything meets our standards. They’ve worked alongside Australian crews, sharing meals and stories, building friendships that span continents.
One of our favorite photos hangs in our Shanghai office: our team, standing alongside Australian Open committee members, smiling at the camera. Different backgrounds. Different languages. United by a shared commitment to excellence.
That’s what 13 years looks like.
The Australian Open taught us lessons no textbook could.
We learned that quality isn’t optional when the world is watching, every detail matters.
We learned that relationships outlast contracts the people you work with become part of your story.
We learned that small companies can achieve big things with enough dedication, enough heart, and enough willingness to learn.
And we learned that consistency is its own kind of victory. Showing up, year after year, delivering the same high standards, earning trust again and again that’s what turns a supplier into a partner.
Today, as we prepare for another Australian Open, we reflect on how far we’ve come. From a young company with something to prove, to a trusted partner with over a decade of Grand Slam experience.
The courts have changed. The players have changed. Even Melbourne has changed.
But one thing remains constant: Kino Furniture is there. Quietly, reliably, proudly doing what we do best.
When you watch the Australian Open this year, look closely. Behind the champions and the crowds, behind the trophies and the tears, you might just spot a piece of furniture from a little factory in Shanghai.
And if you do, know this: it was made with heart.
